The Location

St Mawes is a picturesque seaside village with little cottages clustered around the harbour and beaches.  Fishing boats are moored in the harbour.  The road follows the shore line along the sea front and up to St Mawes Castle on the headland. 

The village has small shops and galleries, two tiny banks (both on the seafront), a post office and several good restaurants.  There is a passenger to boat to Falmouth all year round, and in the summer the network of boats can take you to many other places of interest on the estuary, or even on a fishing trip.

Prydes Cottage is in an enviable position on the waterfront overlooking the sea.  It is a level walk in the morning (2 minutes) to buy a newspaper, or chat to the locals (usually somewhat more than 2 minutes!) while they are buying their freshly baked bread on the harbourside. 

The Cottage

Prydes Cottage  is a white-painted, double-fronted two-storey cottage just 75 yards from the harbour in the direction of St Mawes Castle.   The views are uninterrupted - across the sea to the mouth of the Helford River and beyond in one direction, and to the mouth of the Percuil River in the other.

The cottage has been beautifully renovated, and provides a very comfortable home from home.   It is spacious and light throughout.  The large sitting room has comfortable furniture and an attractive 'coal effect' electric fire.  The two windows both look out over the sea front.  It is tastefully decorated .  It is always a pleasure to walk into Prydes Cottage - it has a welcoming feel.

The large fitted kitchen is country style and well equipped.  The kitchen table is very large, and makes a good gathering point.   From the kitchen there is a door to a back porch with a WC, and through another door to a private patio with shrubs and garden furniture.   You can't see the sea from here, but it is a wonderful suntrap for breakfast or a sit with the newspaper.

Upstairs are two bedrooms and the bathroom.  The double bedroom has a 5' bed and a wonderful panoramic sea view.  It is possible to imagine being on the bridge of a ship from the bed in this room.   The twin bedroom also has the same sea view, and two beds, each 3' wide.    Both bedrooms are comfortable and fully colour-co-ordinated.  

The bathroom also has the same wonderful view as the two bedrooms.   In fact you can sit in the bath and look at the sea if you want to!  There is a bath with a proper shower over it, WC and washbasin.  There is also an airing cupboard.  The bathroom has recently been totally re-fitted, and is very smart. 

There is no lawned garden at Prydes Cottage, but the patio mentioned above is a bonus, and provides a very pleasant area to sit outside in privacy.

 

Visitors can park outside Prydes Cottage in winter and at night time in summer.  The harbour car park is just a few yards away - (£7 per day or £14 for 3 days);  the village car park is quite close too- and cheaper - (£16 per week).
