The Location

Set in the centre of Perranwell village, Ancarva is one of a pair of unspoilt character cottages with its own private 'secret' garden by a stream.

Perranwell is well located for exploring Cornwall. Falmouth is 5 miles, Truro is 5 miles. It is easily possible to do a round trip incorporating St Michael's Mount, St Ives, Lands End and the wonderful coastline of Cornwall - in a day.

It is about 30 minutes by car to the Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan. Other wonderful gardens are in close proximity to Perranwell - several on the borders of The Helford River. Trelissick Gardens are at Feock about 10 minutes away.

The village has an excellent Post Office/general stores which sells almost everything. The pub which is just down the lane offers excellent meals. (At the time of writing, no dogs are permitted inside the pub.)

The Cottage

Park in the front garden of Ancarva Cottage. The front door leads into the entrance porch, and then into a delightful country-style open plan and well-equipped kitchen/diner (washing machine, microwave). The cottage is attractive and comfortable inside with good cottage furniture. There is a comfortable lounge area (TV/DVD, CD player) and a 'squirrel' woodburner which is set into the old Cornish Range surround. Guests are welcome to light this at any time of the year.

Upstairs are two bedrooms (both fairly small). The pretty double bedroom is at the rear, and the bedroom at the front of the cottage has one standard 3' single bed and a second (2'6") bed built at a higher level (it looks like bunks - very popular with children).

There is a bathroom with bath, WC and wash basin, and an electric shower is over the bath (with shower screen).

The stairs are quite steep, so if you use a stair guard for children at home, it would be a good idea to bring it with you.

The private secret garden is reached by a short footpath next to the cottage. This has a lawn surrounded by shrubs and garden furniture on the patio by a little stream. Guests have told us that they come here for breakfast. The stream runs quite fast, is partly fenced off but not totally. Children (and adults too!) are asked not to jump in - or over the stream!

Bikes and surfboards can be stored in the garden shed.
